Bangladesh: Justice Sector Officials Attend Court Administration Conference

In September, NCSC sponsored a Bangladeshi delegation to attend the 7th annual conference of the International Association for Court Administration in Sydney, Australia. The delegation was led by Justice Naima Haider of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and accompanied by Ms. Sharmeen Farouk, NCSC-Bangladesh’s Deputy Chief of Party. Delegates Justice Haider and Dr. Akhtaruzzaman visited several courts where they had the opportunity to hear about court excellence and efforts to enhance services to litigants, improve access, and achieve efficient case processing.

The Conference, which focused on the administration of justice, offered a unique opportunity for the delegates to discuss and exchange views on recent advancements to improve judicial accessibility, efficiency, transparency, and accountability. The Conference showcased best practices that have proven effective. During the conference, the delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Guam Supreme Court Chief Justice Torres and NCSC Vice President Dan Hall, who visited Bangladesh in February 2014.

NCSC is present in Bangladesh as implementing partner of USAID for the Justice for All Program, a five-year initiative that aims to improve legal aid, strengthen judicial governance, and expand legal literacy in Bangladesh.
