Dominican Republic: Exchanging Experience in Judicial Transparency

In February and March 2014, NCSC Principal Court Management Consultant, Alicia Davis, visited the Dominican Republic in follow-up to a fellowship and exchange program initiated through the Department of State’s Legislative Transparency Fellows Program. Through the program, NCSC has facilitated the hosting of emerging leaders in the justice sector from Dominican Republic and El Salvador.

Legislative Transparency Fellows Alum, Judge Aldemaro Muniz of the Dominican Republic, invited NCSC to visit his court in the city of Santiago. This exchange provided the opportunity to consider approaches and strategies to meet evermore pressing needs, and also presented an opportunity to discuss how model approaches could be adapted for application in Santiago and taken to scale throughout the Dominican Republic over time.

NCSC works to advance access and transparency in justice systems throughout Latin America and the Caribbean with the funding of the Department of State, USAID, and other donors.
