Jamaica: Improving Written and Oral Judgments

In December 2015, NCSC hosted a day and a half long workshop on improving written and oral judgments for the country’s magistrates in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Over 40 participants from Resident Magistrate courts across the country attended, along with Chief Justice McCalla of the Supreme Court of Jamaica.

The workshop followed a similar training for Jamaica’s trial and appellate judges hosted in Kingston, Jamaica in March 2015.  Following the workshop, NCSC’s expert trainers will develop a Pocket Judgement Writing Manual for distribute to the Resident Magistrate Courts.

The workshop was hosted as part of NCSC’s ongoing work under the Justice Sector Assistance to the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative Program (CBSI), funded by the Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
