In September and October 2017, NCSC was pleased to contribute to the completion of a research study contracted by Coffey International Development and funded by the U.K., Department for International Development in Somalia. The baseline analysis of the justice sector, including the study of formal and informal systems for dispute resolution, was conducted under the DFID project, “Understanding Potential Development of the Justice System in Somalia and Opportunities for Promoting Rule of Law & State and Peace Building.”
The objective of the research was to provide information on how the formal justice sector operates and how the advancement of justice sector reform could contribute to wider state-building aims in Somalia. NCSC provided the team leader and court administration expert to the multi-member, multi-disciplinary team managed by Coffey International Development. The comprehensive report will inform future DFID development assistance in the sector.
